Field Study: The Architecture of Sound

The doors slam hard here

Machines beep.

Fluorescent lights hum overhead.

Someone calls down the hallway.

A cart rattles across the floor at 5:12 in the morning.

Room Tone

What does safety sound like for a nervous system that has forgotten how to rest?

Firefly_Gemini Flash.png

What if behavioral health spaces included transition rooms designed not around observation, but around nervous system re-regulation?

Softer acoustics

Slower doors

Sound absorption

Warmer materials

Less echo

Less interruption

A space that finally says…

You can unclench now.

Field Note: On the Design of Sound

Sound is architecture, too.
Some environments teach the nervous system to soften.
Others teach it to remain alert.
Perhaps part of healing is hearing a space and no longer preparing for impact.
